Premium lens implants are advanced intraocular lenses (IOLs) used during cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange. They can correct not only cataracts but also reduce the need for glasses after surgery.
Unlike standard monofocal lenses, many premium lens designs provide clearer vision across different distances, helping you to enjoy everyday activities with greater freedom.
At your consultation, Mr Ahmed Hussien will discuss the different lens options and recommend the most suitable implant based on your visual needs, lifestyle and eye health.
Tailored to your vision and lifestyle
There are several types of premium lenses, each designed to meet different visual needs.
Multifocal lenses
- Designed to provide vision at near, intermediate and distance
- Reduced dependence on glasses
- Suitable for selected patients seeking greater spectacle independence
Toric lenses
- Correct corneal astigmatism
- Improve uncorrected vision at the distances targeted by the lens
- Can be combined with multifocal or extended-depth-of-focus technology
Extended depth of focus lenses
- Provide an extended range of functional vision
- Reduce dependence on glasses, particularly for distance and intermediate activities
- Some designs may cause fewer halos than multifocal lenses
Finding the right lens for you
Every patient is unique. During your consultation, Mr Hussien will take time to understand your visual needs, lifestyle and expectations. Detailed eye measurements and imaging will be performed to help determine the most suitable lens implant for you.
He will explain the benefits and potential limitations of each option, ensuring you can make an informed decision with confidence.
Is a premium lens right for me?
Suitability depends on the health of the cornea, macula and optic nerve, the quality of your tear film, your prescription and your expectations.
Some eye conditions make particular lens designs less suitable. A premium lens is not automatically the best lens for every patient.
Understanding the trade-offs
- No lens guarantees complete freedom from spectacles.
- Some designs may produce glare, halos or reduced contrast sensitivity.
- Dry eye, residual prescription or other eye conditions can affect results.
- Lens exchange is surgery and carries risks, including infection, inflammation and retinal complications.

Your questions answered
Will I be completely free from glasses?
Premium lenses can significantly reduce your dependence on glasses, but no lens can guarantee complete spectacle independence.
The result depends on your eye health, lens choice and individual visual needs. Some patients may still need glasses for certain activities, particularly detailed near work.
Are premium lenses only used during cataract surgery?
No. Premium intraocular lenses can be implanted during cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange.
Refractive lens exchange is a procedure in which the natural lens is replaced to correct vision even when a visually significant cataract is not present. Suitability requires careful assessment.
What is the difference between toric and multifocal lenses?
Toric lenses are designed to correct astigmatism, which can otherwise cause blurred or distorted vision.
Multifocal lenses provide more than one focal point, helping patients see at different distances.
These technologies can be combined in a multifocal toric lens where appropriate.
Can I drive at night with a premium lens?
Many patients can drive at night following premium lens surgery, provided their vision meets the required driving standard.
However, some lens designs can cause halos, glare and other visual disturbances around lights, particularly at night.
Your night-driving requirements will be discussed when selecting the most appropriate lens.
